Telstar fires trainer Mike Snoei after poor results

Telstar immediately says goodbye to trainer Mike Snoei. The reason is the poor results of the football club from Velsen-Zuid. Telstar is having a dramatic season and is last in the first division.

Last Friday Telstar received a beating when visiting MVV. The IJmonders were beaten 6-1. After the winter break, Telstar had a relatively easy program. Yet there was no victory. The last time Telstar won was on November 17 last year. Then FC Den Bosch was defeated 4-1.

“With the competition program after the winter break and the return of the injured players, the hope was that the results would improve. It is disappointing for both parties that this has not improved. After a wonderful 2022/2023 season in which an impressive ninth place was achieved under the leadership of Mike Snoei, this season proved to be more difficult,” said general manager Leon Annokkee.

Succession

Snoei was in his second period at Telstar. In his debut season 2017/18 he did very well and Telstar reached the semi-finals of the play-offs. In 2019, Snoei left for De Graafschap. In Doetinchem he was fired in 2021, even though his contract had been extended. The reason was missing out on promotion to the Premier League. Snoei returned to Velsen-Zuid in 2022, but after more than a year and a half, that stay came to an untimely end. It is not yet clear who will succeed Snoei.

Unique

The fact that Telstar fires a trainer is almost unique. The last time the football club did that was in February 2010. At the time, Edward Metgod was the head coach and Telstar was also in a terrible state. In that season, the last team was relegated from the first division to amateur football. After the change of coach, his successor Marcel Bout barely managed to save Telstar from that demise.
