Telstar ends 2023 with defeat in Venlo

The last match of 2023 ended in a minor key for Telstar. When they visited VVV-Venlo, the score was 2-1 for the Limburgers. Zakaria Eddahchouri made it 1-1, but Telstar did not get any further.

Danzell Gravenberch was allowed to start from the start in Venlo against VVV. He was the only newcomer in the Telstar base. Cain Seedorf had to take a seat on the bench. The game got off to a difficult start with few chances. However, VVV was immediately accurate. Levi Smans was given too much space after a splitting pass from Robin Lathouwers and scored: 1-0.

Moments later, Smans was also at the end of the next dangerous attack. This time, however, his effort went just wide. That cost VVV dearly, as Zakaria Eddahchouri scored the equalizer into the goal. The ball happened to land at his feet and the top scorer did not hesitate: 1-1. Before half-time, Martijn Berden had another opportunity to take the lead. This one didn’t go in either.

Goalkeeper Ronald Koeman Jr. had already kept his team in the match a few times in the first half, but his biggest achievement came in the second. Richard Sedláček delivered the ball to Magnus Kaastrup and Koeman stopped the ball in a fantastic way. It turned out to be a stay of execution. Kaastrup was played after a short corner and surprised the goalkeeper from a great distance: 2-1.

Koeman was able to save the ball moments later from a free kick by Smans. A positive aspect of the defeat was the return of Christos Giousis. In the last minute, VVV received a red card via Pepijn Doesburg, but to no avail. As a result, Telstar drops to 19th place in the first division. After the winter break, Jong AZ will be the first opponent on January 12.

Telstar setup: Koeman; Van de Loo (Giousis/87), Apau, Soares, Bakker, Oude Kotte; Plat (Liesdek/72), Augustinian (Koswal/72), Turfwarer; Gravenberch (El Kachati/72), Eddahchouri
