At Telstar there was a starting place again for Zakaria Eddahchouri. The striker was missing last Friday against TOP Oss, because he was together with three other players didn’t want to play in a rainbow shirt. Eddahchouri formed the attack together with Danzell Gravenberch.

In the first half hour it was not the strikers who provided the most threat, but Alex Plat and Tom Overtoom. The midfielders were closest to the opening goal with several long shots.

On the counterattack

GVVV, supported by a well-stocked sports complex, saw that Telstar had a lot of the ball and was mainly looking for the counter. Just before half time, the home team had a great chance via the counter-attack. Mart de Jong came face to face with Telstar goalkeeper Joey Houweling, but wasted the chance by not receiving the ball properly.

The first opportunity after half-time was for Telstar. Eddahchouri shot over the goal from close range after a ready cross from Overtoom. GVVV also quickly became dangerous in the second act. Houweling was barely able to intervene on a bet from attacker Genrich Sillé. In the subsequent attack, former professional Barry Maguire shot narrowly wide.

Feline reflex

After almost an hour of play, Gravenberch made his first dangerous move. GVVV goalkeeper Jan van Willige had a cat-like reflex to keep the ball out of the goal. On the other hand, Sillé was close again. An effort from the quick winger was well saved in the short corner by Houweling.

Byron Burgering also had a great opportunity fifteen minutes before the end. The GVVV attacker ran out of Telstar’s defense at speed, but failed miserably in finishing. Burgering’s attempt marked the start of a strong phase for the home team. GVVV eventually rewarded itself by making the deserved 1-0 just before the end. Substitute Jonathan Vergara Berrio shot a deflected corner hard into the ropes.

Telstar setup: Pickaxe; Seedorf, Apau, Soares (Augustinian/11), Koswal (Tahiri/90), Peat Porter; Van de Loo, Plat, Overtoom (Van den Heerik/90); Eddahchouri, Gravenberch
