The US rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine, real name Daniel Hernandez, was attacked and beaten up by several men in a Florida gym. A photo shows Hernandez, who was immediately taken to a hospital with serious injuries to his face. Videos of the act are circulating on the internet. Nothing is known about the two attackers. Nor about the people who filmed the process.

Violence against Tekashi 6ix9ine

It’s not the first time the rapper has been attacked. Various incidents have occurred over the last few years in which people who were obviously unknown to him used his presence as an opportunity to become violent. Just last Saturday (March 18), a man threw a beer can at him at a baseball game. During the Mexico vs. Puerto Rico encounter at the World Baseball Classic in Miami, the 26-year-old waved the Mexican flag. A few rows up, a fan used this as an opportunity to throw the ball, which just missed the musician’s head.

Since Tekashi 6ix9ine went viral with his first videos, his striking looks including rainbow-dyed dreadlocks and countless facial tattoos and his exaggerated personality, antipathy towards the rapper has been everywhere. They reached a new level after he struck a deal with prosecutors at a court hearing in January 2019. During the trial of himself and ten other members of the New York Nine Trey Gangsters, he pleaded guilty to gun possession, racketeering, gang membership and plotted murder. He incriminated his co-defendants. His sentence was considerably shorter – and his reputation was finally ruined. However, it is difficult to say to what extent this is linked to the individual attacks. Nevertheless, at least the social and media ostracism as a “snitch” (“rat”) should contribute to the atmosphere.

Since he released his third album TATTLETALES in 2020, Hernandez has been rather quiet musically. In 2022 a single single entitled “GINÉ” was released.
