Teenagers are going back to book covers en masse, but easy is not always appreciated

After weeks of summer holidays, the students really have to believe it again: school is starting again. And that also means buying cover paper, diaries and compasses. Annelies of the Stumpel bookshop in Purmerend notices that parents and children have already bought in en masse, because the school supplies have gone ‘very fast’. What’s hot this year?

Everything is nicely lined up, but the real pearls have often already been sold. The sale of the school supplies has gone fast and Annelies of bookstore Stumpel tells NH Radio that she has seen ‘a lot of people with lists’ pass by.

“Calendars are still all the rage,” she says of the runners. Reporter Sjoerd Hilarius used to have a football agenda himself, but now mainly sees Minecraft and Extreme Cars. Annelies emphasizes that Donald Duck is also still a top favourite.

Easy covers

Of course there must also be chaffing. Dozens of books are provided with a nice layer of paper. “Book covers are getting easier and easier,” says Annelies. You can also put a fabric cover around the book. However, not all schools are enthusiastic about this method. “Just go old-fashioned with your adhesive tape,” the child of presenter Pieter Kok got back from teachers.

All of these school supplies are anything but free. “Some schools have a fairly long list of special regulations,” says Annelies. For example, one hundred and twenty grams of A4 drawing paper, special drawing pencils or special markers for online.

Tip

Annelies outlines that parents spend an average of “150 to 200 euros on school supplies.” According to her, you’re always good with some products: “You never have enough notebooks. Or pens and pencils.”
