The boy cycled with a friend around 11.10 pm on the Groeseindstraat near the Houtstraat. They saw a moped rider speeding towards them. After that moment things went very wrong: the moped rider suddenly threw an egg, which came full in his face.
As a result, the teenager slammed his bicycle on the ground. In the hospital, the trauma turned out to be greater than expected: the vision from one eye is not yet good at all. There are serious concerns about whether the 16-year-old will make a full recovery.
The police are looking for people who know more about the perpetrator or who may have CCTV footage of the assault.
