This is evident from the latest overview of major donations made by political parties. In the context of transparency, the Ministry of the Interior regularly provides updates on donations above 10,000 euros towards the elections. The latest overview, published on Thursday, shows that D66 in particular is popular among the wealthy in the country three weeks before the elections.
Money has been donated to the Democrats from no fewer than three quarters, who caught the eye on Thursday evening with two expensive advertising breaks during halftime of the Dutch national team’s match.
In any case, among those three is tech millionaire Steven Schuurman. He donated another 1 million euros to D66 and 350,000 euros to the Animal Party towards the 2021 elections. He is not doing so well this year (yet). However, the Animals seem to have fallen out of his favour. This time Volt also gets a ton, GL has to make do with 20,000 euros.

In addition to Schuurman, D66 also received a ton from ‘M. Witteveen’ and ‘J. Loerakker’. A certain C. Bastiaansen already gave the party 50,000 euros in mid-September, as did regular donor and Quote 500 member Rob Defares. The Democrats received a total of 766,000 euros in major donations. Only GL, which is formally a party in itself and is therefore listed separately from PvdA in the overview, just exceeds this. But GL also receives many mandatory contributions from active politicians, who have to hand over part of their compensation to the party coffers.
The struggling VVD has not been very popular with donors in recent weeks. The party received another 50,000 euros through Lingedelta BV. In the summer, the Liberals also received a hundred thousand euros from real estate company Metterwoon. But last week he turned to VVD’s competitor on the right: JA21 also received 100,000 euros from the company. It had also donated to both parties in previous years.
Other parties that are doing well in the polls have to make do with a lot less. The PVV does not receive any donations above 10,000 euros. The CDA received a total of just over €100,000 this year.
