Taylor Swift appeared on “The Tonight Show” on Monday night, where she met host Jimmy Fallon talked about her new album “The Life of a Showgirl”. “It was a surprise and a secret that I carried with me for a year,” she said of the album. “And it’s so exciting. It’s like saying, ‘I have a really great Christmas present for my brother!’ But you’ve had it for a year. And so it’s really exciting that they opened the gift and are playing with the toys.” She added: “I think this is the time that best suits my life situation when I wrote the album – and my current situation now that it’s out. I feel exactly the same way I did when I wrote and recorded these songs.”
About Travis Kelce and their master recordings
In the long conversation, the pop star talked about Travis Kelce’s marriage proposal and the fact that she recently got the rights to her master recordings back. “The fact that this happened still strikes me as completely absurd,” she said of regaining the rights to her first six albums. “Because I had kind of come to terms with the fact that I was going to re-record my music – that I was going to try to recreate these songs as accurately and faithfully as possible. And that’s exactly what I wanted to do, because no one had ever given me the opportunity to bid on my work before.”
Rumors about the Super Bowl
Over the course of the interview, Fallon read off several rumors about Swift and asked her to respond to each one. The first was that Swift turned down the Super Bowl halftime show because the NFL wouldn’t allow her to keep the recordings of her performance. “The thing is: Jay-Z has always been very good to me,” Swift replied, alluding to the fact that Jay-Z’s Roc Nation is producing the halftime show. “Our teams are very close. Sometimes they call and ask, ‘How is she? [Super Bowl]?’ And this is not an official offer or a conference room conversation. Just: ‘Our teams are very close, how do they feel about it in general?’”
She continued: “And we can always tell him the truth. Which is that I’m in love with a man who plays this sport on this field. This is violent chess. These are gladiators without swords. This is dangerous. All season long I’m fixated on what this man does on the field. Can you imagine him being out there every week, risking his life, playing this very dangerous, very stressful, very intense sport – and I’m like, ‘I wonder what my choreography should be?'” She made it clear that she doesn’t want to perform during the Super Bowl: “And that has nothing to do with Travis. He would love it if I did it. I’m just too focused on it.”
New songs in the show
Swift also used her appearance on The Tonight Show to introduce several songs from The Life of a Showgirl, including “Opalite” and the album’s title track.
Reactions from the NFL
In September, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell extended an open invitation to Swift to perform during the halftime show. “We would always love for Taylor to play,” Goodell said on the Today Show. “She is a very special talent and of course welcome at any time.” Last week it was announced that Bad Bunny would be taking over the helm of the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show.
Roc Nation, the NFL and Apple Music officially announced that the Puerto Rican superstar will take center stage at the NFL Championship in February during halftime of the game between the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers on September 28th. “What I feel goes beyond myself,” Bad Bunny said in a statement. “It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come and score a touchdown…this is for my people, my culture and our history.”
