Wimbledon semi-finalist Tatjana Maria has been named “Comeback Player of the Year” by the WTA.
The 35-year-old had the year 2021 after the birth of her second child and the associated break as world number 279. closed. Maria, who won the title in Bogota in April, is currently ranked 70th.
She caused a stir with her run at the grass classic in Wimbledon. Maria defeated Jule Niemeier in the German quarter-finals at the All England Club, but then lost to Ons Jabeur (Tunisia) in the round of four.
