With the impetus of full-house performances, the Contemporary Ballet of the San Martín Theater returns to the stage with a proposal that combines memory, identity and projection: “Stekelman in three times”, a retrospective dedicated to the work of Ana María Stekelman.

The event will be from Friday, March 6 to Sunday, March 8, at 8 p.m., at the Parque Centenario Amphitheater, with free admission until capacity is reached.. Seventy minutes of outdoor dance that celebrate a decisive legacy for the Argentine contemporary scene.

Directed by Andrea Chinetti and co-directed by Diego Pobletethe Ballet assumes this retrospective as a gesture of recognition and construction of identity. It is not only about restoring three emblematic pieces—“Dancing in the Dark” (1988), the duet “Romance del diablo” (2001) and “La consecration of tango” (1998)—but about putting into dialogue again a choreographic language that knew how to intertwine, with rigor and inventiveness, the pulse of tango and the grammar of contemporary dance.

Founder of Ballet itself and Tangokinesis, Stekelman has built an exceptional international career. Invited to close the Avignon Festival at the Palais des Papes, she premiered The consecration of tango at the Opera Garnier in Paris and was awarded the Platinum Konex and the María Ruanova Prize, among other recognitions. His poetics, which investigate darkness, love, sublimation and rupture, find an eloquent synthesis in these three works. In “Dancing in the Dark,” the scene becomes a metaphor for life; in “Romance del diablo”, originally created for Julio Bocca and Cecilia Figaredo, intimacy becomes sentimental nudity; In “The Consecration of Tango”, the music of Igor Stravinsky and Astor Piazzolla merges into a disruptive sound architecture that challenges genres and traditions.

On the stage of the Amphitheater, a cast of performers of notable solvency will give substance to this heritage: Constanza Agüero, Brenda Arana, Camila Arechavaleta, Juan Camargo, Carolina Capriati, Lautaro Dolz, Benjamín Lameiro, Rodrigo Etelechea, Fiorella Federico, Darcio Gonçales, Jonás Grassi, Vicente Manzoni, Silvina Pérez, Boris Pereyra, Eliana Picallo, Andrea Pollini, Lara Rodríguez, Damián Saban, Ivana Santaella, Manuela Suárez Poch, Camila Vanoni, Federica Wankiewicz, Catalina Weber and Antonella Zanutto, among others. The choreographic revivals feature the work of Elizabeth Rodríguez, Melisa Buchelli, Nora Robles and Pedro Calveyra, in a framework that articulates transmission and current events.

With almost five decades of uninterrupted history, the Contemporary Ballet thus reaffirms its status as the country’s flagship companys. By moving this retrospective to a public space, it turns the park into a stage and memory into a living present, offering the public a high-flying, open and democratic aesthetic experience.
