“I remember that I saw Jasper for the first time. He worked at a lunchroom in Steenwijk, where I was living at the time. I sat on the terrace next to it. There was some flirtation and then after closing time we got stuck. When I got home, I sent a text message to see him,” come and have a drink. ” I was 19, he 26.
Before Jasper I had a nasty relationship, but Jasper was completely different: super sweet and genuinely interested, not such a tough tower. Then he was already a musician, which I also found very attractive. We both turned out to be a fan of the not so well -known band Venice. Of their song Always We had a tattoo put for our marriage.
Festival proposal
Our wedding took place ten years after that first introduction. In the meantime we had three children, twins and a girl. I wanted to get married, but I liked it if our children could be. On Vlieland, Jasper eventually opened on one knee, on the beach, during the Into The Great Wide festival.
We really have something with Vlieland. My mother and stepfather had a house there, it is our second home and it is always nice. We therefore wanted the wedding to take place on Vlie. We rented a group accommodation for our guests and took our own wedding official.
Romantic weekend
It was a beautiful sunny day. Jasper picked me up on a cart with Frisian horses. So nice, everyone in the village was waving us by the side.
The blessing took place in the garden of the Armhuis. We read our vows to each other and thought it was a nice idea to drop it in an empty wine bottle as a bottle post after the party and pass it on to the universe. We did that after that romantic weekend on the return trip on the boat. A kiss in the bottle and overboard with it.

World famous in Friesland
That it was found after two months by a photographer on the beach of Rottumerplaat was unexpectedly fast. One of our wedding guests knew about our bottle post and pointed us to her call. That’s how our vows came back to us, haha. A funny story with which we have even been on the regional TV channel. We are now world famous in Friesland.
I was born and raised Friezin, Jasper only came to live here later. We first lived in Noordwolde for a while and now we have settled in a wonderful farm in the small village of Oldeberkoop. It was our dream to live on a farm with some land around it later, but it has become a reality much earlier.
Family home
The farm in Olderberkoop came on our path six years ago, but remained in our head. What if we could turn it into a family home? I worked as a family practitioner and occasionally we already caught a foster child at our home.
Our children, now four, also thought it was a nice idea. Then we put on the bad shoes and approached an organization of family homes to see if we could crow it up in terms of financing. A golden hold, because in the end it was arranged within three weeks.
We have been living there for six years now and we really like it. We have built a wonderful life and company that we are very proud of. I work outside for three days, but Jasper has given up his job in logistics and is always at home to support our own and our foster children.
It is our way of life and wonderful to do that on our farm and in the garden. The notes with our vows are in two smaller bottles hanging in the bedroom. All the sweet things and wishes that we had written there for each other, we still feel that way and we live up to every day. ”
