Tamara gives birth to baby on KLM flight (but didn’t know she was pregnant)

A woman on board a KLM flight from Ecuador to Schiphol unexpectedly gave birth to a baby boy last Wednesday. The mother did not know she was pregnant. To her great surprise, after two contractions, she suddenly had a baby in her hands, reports the Spaarne Hospital that received them after arrival.

Passenger Tamara suffered from abdominal pain a few hours before landing at Schiphol. In the toilet these turned out to be contractions and to her great surprise she gave birth to a baby, whom she named Maximiliano. Tamara knew nothing about her pregnancy and, according to the Spaarne Gasthuis, was surprised by what happened to her.

On board the Boeing 777, which flew from the Ecuadorian capital Quito, via Guayaguil to Schiphol, there were also two doctors and a nurse who came to the aid of Tamara. Maximiliano was named after one of the aid workers.

Ambulance

At Schiphol, Tamara and her baby were taken by ambulance to the Spaarne Gasthuis in Haarlem and admitted to the birth ward. According to the hospital, the two are doing well, Tamara was originally supposed to transfer to a flight to Madrid at Schiphol. As soon as possible, mother and son will still travel to Spain.
