Talking Heads have turned down $80 million for a reunion tour

Live Nation failed to facilitate a Talking Heads tour. Coachella also comes away empty-handed.

Talking Heads are said to have been offered a total of $80 million by tour promoter Live Nation for six to eight festival appearances this year. However, the band refused the money and therefore a reunion tour. Paul Tollett, head of Coachella promoter Goldenvoice, also tried in vain to get the group on the lineup for the festival in California.

There is currently no chance of live gigs

Talking Heads gave interviews in 2023 to mark the re-release of their 1984 concert film “Stop Making Sense” on the big screen. The promo phase for the film was not only the band’s first joint appearance since their induction into the “Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame” in 2002, but also a glimmer of hope for many fans – we could soon experience concerts with David Byrne , Tina Weymouth, Jerry Harrison and Chris Frantz perform old tracks together? But this kind of wishful thinking should now be a thing of the past: According to “Billboard”, Talking Heads have turned down several offers for new gigs.

In addition to Live Nation’s $80 million for a short comeback tour, Tollett also met with the band members at the Toronto International Film Festival to discuss a possible appearance at Coachella 2024, but he ultimately dropped the offer calm because, according to “Billboard,” he “felt that no concerts would take place.” An inside source revealed that the gig earned them $10 million.
