Taliban attack police station in Pakistan: seven dead | Abroad

“Four people were killed in the attack, including two police officers, a (paramilitary) ranger and a maintenance engineer,” said Murtaza Wahab Siddiqui, the spokesman for the Sindh provincial government. “The operation ended with the deaths of the three terrorists.”

Several police officers were taken hostage on Friday evening (local time), a police officer said. Explosions and shots could be heard from the building complex. The complex consists of several police buildings and residences for high-ranking officers and their families. About 30 officers were in the office at the time of the storm, a spokesman told Reuters.

Five people present at the police station were killed in the attack. Eleven others were injured. Three militants were also killed.

After several hours, the Pakistani security forces regained control of the building.

Since TTP announced a truce with the government in Islamabad late last year, the militant Islamists have claimed several attacks. The security forces are often the target. The Pakistani Taliban operate independently of the Islamist Taliban government in neighboring Afghanistan.
