Taiwan carries out the death penalty for the first time in almost five years: “Huge setback for human rights”

A 32-year-old man was executed in Taiwan on Thursday. He had strangled his ex-girlfriend and her mother in 2017. It had been almost five years since the death penalty was carried out in the country. According to human rights groups, the execution represents a “huge setback” for human rights on the island.
