Tadej Pogacar has won his third stage victory in the Tour de Romandie. The Slovenian from UAE Team Emirates-XRG soloed to victory in the fourth and penultimate stage. This strengthens his leading position in the general classification.
The ride was 150 kilometers, starting in Broc and finishing in Charmey. The Jaunpass passed three times along the way (8.1 kilometers at an 8.3 percent average). After the last passage at the top it was still about sixteen kilometers to the finish.
On the last climb of the Jaunpass, the last remaining early escapee, including Primoz Roglic, was overtaken by an acceleration from Pogacar. Florian Lipowitz, number 2 in the rankings, was able to keep up with the world champion for a while, but he too had to let go not much later.
Pogacar continued solo and was allowed to cheer in Charmey. It is his third success on the day, after the 27-year-old Slovenian also won the stage on Wednesday and Thursday. The final stage on Sunday will finish with a climb of more than fourteen kilometers.
The German Lipowitz finished second in Charmey, fourteen seconds behind Pogacar. Pablo Castrillo from Spain came third. That was already at 1’42. In the general classification, Lipowitz remains Pogacar’s closest opponent, at 35.
Pogacar makes his debut in the Tour de Romandie, which, besides the Tour of the Basque Country and the Tour of Switzerland, is the only one of the ‘big seven’ stage races of around a week that is not yet on his list of achievements. He has already won Paris-Nice (2023), Tirreno-Adriatico (2021 and 2022), the Tour of Catalonia (2024) and the Dauphiné (2025).
In June Pogacar will also participate in the Tour of Switzerland. That will be his last race in the run-up to the Tour de France, which he can win for the fifth time. This would make him a shared record holder, together with Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Miguel Indurain.
Pogacar has ridden five top classics so far this season, winning four times (Strade Bianche, Milan-San Remo, Tour of Flanders and Liège-Bastogne-Liège). He was only beaten by Wout van Aert in Paris-Roubaix. The Tour de Romandie is his first multi-day race of 2026.
