Syky appoints Nicola Formichetti as creative director

The Web3 fashion platform Syky appoints Nicola Formichetti as artistic director.

The platform, which specializes in digital luxury fashion, staffs with Formichetti the position of creative director for the first time. Founded in 2023 by former Ralph Lauren digital boss Alice Delahunt, the company aims to offer a platform that combines luxury fashion and Web3 technology. Users can create, curate and share their digital collections on Syky.

As the fashion platform announced on Monday, Formichetti is set to further expand the company’s presence in the luxury fashion sector. This includes taking part in the upcoming fashion weeks in New York and London, where Syky is already present last year was. Formichetti’s responsibilities also include talent acquisition for luxury fashion in the physical and digital sectors. In addition, the newly appointed artistic director will work with the six members of the Syky community, including London designer Charli Cohen and New Yorker Jacqueline Assar.

“At Syky we are working towards a future that is physical and digital. Nicola understands this innately and has been ahead of the curve throughout his career. Our team, our community, our platform and our groundbreaking designer collective are enriched by Nicola’s creativity and his unique sense of connecting with a new generation of luxury consumers,” comments Syky founder Delahunt.

From Mugler and Diesel into the digital world

Formichetti previously worked as creative director of various international luxury labels, including Mugler and Diesel. He has also collaborated with brands such as Uniqlo and Alexander McQueen. He is particularly known for his collaboration with Lady Gaga: as personal design director, he worked with the singer on some of her iconic red carpet looks, including the ‘meat dress’ for the 2010 MTV Music Awards.

“I am very excited to join Syky and help shape the future of fashion, which I believe is both physical and digital. In my 25-year career in the fashion industry, I have been fascinated by the potential of the digital space and am now excited to exploit it to its fullest and create opportunities that suit today’s world. The mix of fashion and technology offers us all exciting opportunities to push boundaries, innovate and shape the industry,” said Formichetti about his new position.
