Switzerland and the Czech Republic complete the semi-finals at the BJK Cup

The tennis players from Switzerland and the Czech Republic secured the last semi-final tickets at the final tournament of the Billie Jean King Cup in Glasgow.

Switzerland beat Canada 2-1 with individual wins by Viktorija Golubic and Belinda Bencic to secure first place in Group A.

The Swiss, who reached the final of what was then known as the Fed Cup for the only time in 1998 (2-3 against Spain), will meet the Czechs on Saturday, who have already won the cup eleven times. In a duel with record champion USA, Katerina Siniakova scored the decisive second point for the Czech Republic against Coco Gauff, which thus won group D.

Australia and Great Britain face off in the second semi-final. The Russian champions were not allowed to take part because of their country’s attack on Ukraine. The German team plays against Croatia in the play-offs for relegation.
