At the beginning of May, the province of North Holland issued negative swimming advice for the water around the swimming jetty on the Herenweg in Kudelstaart. Not because of blue-green algae, which has also been found here, but because of goose droppings.

The fecal bacteria E. coli was found in the water. This could lead to stomach and intestinal complaints for swimmers. It is therefore advised not to swim around the jetty for the rest of the summer.

Although there is a sign for updates on the quality of the water, it does not mention anything about the poop bacteria.

Most local residents do not care about the advice. People still swim and play in it. “If I don’t see the poop, I think it’s not there, then I just go for a swim,” said one woman.
