SV Werder Bremen extended with long-running defense

Serbian international Milos Veljkovic will stay with Werder Bremen even after promotion to the Bundesliga. The 26-year-old central defender has extended his expiring contract by three years.

“He has been with us for six years and knows what he has at the club. Here he has developed into a seasoned professional who has everything as a central defender and has proven over several years that he can play in the Bundesliga,” said Werder’s head of scouting and professional football, Clemens Fritz.

After the contract extension with Veljkovic, Bremen’s central defense is complete for the new Bundesliga season. Amos Pieper (Arminia Bielefeld) and Niklas Stark (Hertha BSC) have been newly signed for this area, captain Ömer Toprak has left the club.

“After promotion to the Bundesliga, it was clear to me that Bremen would be my first point of contact,” said Veljkovic, who joined Werder from Tottenham Hotspur in February 2016.
