Status: 01/27/2023 8:58 p.m

SV Elversberg clearly defeated Rot-Weiss Essen on Friday evening.

After the 5:1 victory at the season opener in July last yearthe expectations of the SVE before the first game of the second half of the season were high: Would they succeed again this time under floodlights and in front of a home crowdto dismantle the co-promoted Rot-Weiss Essen?

The current leaders of the third division had to do without defensive man Lukas Pinckert – he saw yellow-red in the game against FC Ingolstadt, which had been relegated to the second division. Instead of him, Robin Fellhauer was on the pitch from minute one. In addition, the former RWE player Luca Dürholtz replaced the Midfielder Carlo Sickinger in the SVE starting XI.

Lots of chances in what ended up being a goalless first half

The opponent got into the game better in the first minutes of the game, the SVE concentrated primarily on defending. At first there was little to see from the host in an offensive manner. The first big chance of the game came in the 17th minute for Essen. But just two minutes later, the SVE countered, Werder Bremen’s loanee Nick Woltemade but failed because of RWE’s goalkeeper.

In the 22nd minute, Essen had a triple chance: first Isaiah Young’s shot landed deflected on the right post, then Lawrence Ennalli tried to put the ball into the goal, but also only hit the wood. From there the ball fell to Simon Engelmann’s feet, but his shot was saved by SVE central defender Marcel Correia on the line.

The rest of the first half was at a high level, the SVE appeared after the spectacle in front of their own goal, woken up and also more dominant against the Essen team, who seemed to be weaker and weaker towards the end.

Two goals within a few minutes for SVE

From the point of view of the SVE, it became dangerous again in the 53rd minute with a free kick whistled for the guests from a promising position. However, Thomas Eisfeld’s shot caught Manuel Feil. However, the ball came back to the man from Essen, who only narrowly circled it past the left corner on the second try.

After another big chance for SVE in the 57th minute, the long-awaited goal finally came in the 62nd minute: Feil placed the ball in the lower left corner from 15 meters after preliminary work by Luca Schnellbacher – and brought SVE with it for a 1-0 lead. Just seven minutes later, Woltemade made it 2-0 by chipping the ball past RWE goalkeeper Jakob Golz into the left corner.

After conceding two goals, the increasingly frustrated Essen team had little to counter the hosts. Finally, SVE managed to make it 3-0 in the 89th minute through a cross from Kevin Koffi to Israel Suero Fernández – and Horst Steffen’s eleven put the lid on it.
