LSustainability, in the round, is once again at the center of this year Do the right thing!the National fair of critical consumption and sustainable lifestyles who returns to Milan at the weekend March 24-26, 2023 for its 19th edition, organized by the Terre di mezzo publishing house. In fact, every area of ​​life can be tackled with a critical approach, more attentive to the planet but also “to the rights of peoples and workers”. And no less pleasant for that. Thus nutrition (food and street food) and fashion, childhood and school, cosmetics, the home and the sustainable tourism. Here are some of the most interesting realities to discover and… try.

Sustainable tourism, on foot and by bicycle

Inside Do the Right Thing! the second edition of the Great Paths Fair, the largest event in Italy dedicated to walking and cycle trips. An opportunity to explore the routes from north to south of Italy and also abroad. For example?

You walk in the feminine: from the warrior queen Camilla…

There are three projects for women’s walks that will be presented at the fair. The first is the Path of Queen Camilla, in Lazio, which crosses all the villages of the Amaseno river valley, in southern Lazio, between the provinces of Latina and Frosinone. A “social journey” of about 130 kilometres, divided into various stages, aimed at promoting processes of socio-spatial inclusion among populations, at strengthening their identity awareness and the link with the territory. It is dedicated to the Queen of the Volsci Camilla, progenitor of the Ciociaro people. Consecrated by her father, King Metabo, tyrant of Privernum, to the Goddess Diana, she grew up in these lands as a warrior princess.

It unites Bergamo and Brescia there Street of the Sisters. A slow cultural itinerary of over 100 km that winds through hilly and pre-Alpine landscapes, redeveloped naturalistic oases and ancient villages suspended in time, touching two Unesco sites (the Venetian defense works of the Upper Town of Bergamo and the monastic complex of San Salvatore-Santa Giulia in Brescia) and two regional parks. The territory was for four centuries the domain of the Serenissima, and therefore is united by homogeneous cultural elements. The objective of the journey, conceived by the Slow Ride Italy association and supported by the two municipal administrations, is to enhance the immense historical, artistic, archaeological and naturalistic heritage in a sustainable and “slow” key of the territory, traveling on as little asphalt as possible.

Passing through Santa Barbara

The third is the Santa Barbara Mining Trailin Sardinia: a spectacular path of 500 kilometers to discover the historical and human landscape heritage in the south-west of the Region. From the sea of ​​Sant’Antioco to the dense forests of Marganaifrom the white dunes of Piscinas to the spectacular caves of Is Zuddas, winds through suggestive abandoned minesgalleries overlooking the rocks, ghost villages and ancient railways that get lost in the woods. The “Italia in Gamba” project will be launched at the fair: walking routes in search of positive stories of women to share to enhance the Italian territories, a walk for gender equality, to demonstrate that there is an “Italia in Gamba” that is committed to and with women for a more just and inclusive society.

To conceive it, the virtual community Gamba girlsborn within the National Network of Women on the Way (launched at Do the right thing! in the 2019 edition). Today the group involves 108,000 people and hosts free proposals from women on the move, useful for promoting ideas, creating synergies and friendships for sharing roads. Since four years, a point of reference for those looking for information, indications, technical advice on the paths«but also for those who just need to listen and a virtual hug. We are a walking group, but also a group of help and support because one thing does not exclude the other and we women are famous for multitasking».

Regions in which to practice sustainable tourism

There are 13 Regions present at the fair, the highest number ever (Valle d’Aosta, Lombardy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Emilia-Romagna, Toscana Promozione Turistica, Umbria, Abruzzo, Marche, Lazio, Puglia, Campania, Sicily, Sardinia ). And each one will propose ideas and cues for discovering the area in a slow and sustainable way. In particular, Sardinia promotes the event – in collaboration with Terre di mezzo – “We walk in Sardinia”, which will take place from 3 to 7 October 2023.

And then a suggestion to all parents for their next holidays, in slow tourism style: you can ride a bike with the kids! is the motto of Giulia_Bikefamily, who talks about his cycling holiday experiences with his children on social networks and now at the fair.
