Suspect (22) in Gino case will be arraigned tomorrow, contact with family prohibited | Abroad

Donny M., the suspect of the involvement in the death of the 9-year-old boy Gino, will be arraigned on Tuesday in the Dutch city of Roermond. A spokeswoman for the Public Prosecution Service in Maastricht has announced this. During an arraignment, a examining magistrate determines whether the pre-trial detention of a suspect will be extended. Any contact with his family is prohibited.

The 22-year-old man from Geleen is also suspected of kidnapping. Gino was last seen on a football field in Kerkrade on Wednesday evening, where he played football with some other children. He has been missing ever since. Gino had been staying with an older sister in Kerkrade for a week because his mother is ill in Maastricht and he could not stay there.

After his disappearance, the police raised the alarm. Hundreds of people searched for him for days in Kerkrade and Landgraaf, where a scooter was found that looked a lot like his. At the direction of the suspect, Gino’s body was found on Saturday morning behind a burned-out house in Geleen. The suspect had been arrested shortly before.

Donny M. is in restrictions, which means that he is not allowed to talk to anyone except his lawyer. All parties involved (police, judiciary and lawyer) must also remain silent.

The suspect was already convicted in 2017 for abuse and mistreatment of two boys in Sittard. He is a passionate PSV fan and had a girlfriend for several months with whom he beamed in photos. Friends are therefore surprised at the news, they mainly know him as “a well-groomed and neat boy”. Although it also sounds that he “had a lot of problems”.
