Berlin (dpa -AfX) – At the German airports, fewer passengers arrive at the German airports who want to visit Germany. Their share of all passengers has broken down permanently with Corona pandemic, reports the ADV airport association from its latest passenger survey with more than 125,000 participants. Accordingly, the proportion of foreign Germany visitors fell from 32 percent in 2017 to 21 percent last year.

Here the insufficient range of air travel to Germany becomes noticeable, for which the industry is particularly responsible for high taxes and state fees. The ADV requires to delete the air traffic tax without replacement after the model of Sweden. General Managing Director Ralph Beisel explains: “The once attracting travel destination Germany has been on a downward downhill since the pandemic. The new federal government must also take an attractiveness into account in its project – the travel destination in Germany.”

After further results of the survey, the proportion of business travelers under the passengers has now declined to a fifth. The growth of private trips is worn by visits to relatives and friends as well as by city and event travel. The largest group of 48 percent comes to the airport with its own car.

Frankfurter Fraport in loss zone

The doldrums did not go without a trace even on the largest German airport. Frankfurt Airport operator Fraport AG generated a loss of 26.4 million euros in the first quarter of this year. A year ago, the group win was still 12.7 million euros in the traditionally lowest annual section. From January to March, Fraport also counted 12.4 million passengers in Frankfurt because of the later Easter festival, almost one percent less than in the previous year./ceb/dp/jha
