Surprisingly good Ajax draws against Aston Villa in the Conference League

After the break, Ajax was close to 1-0 again, when Hlynsson tried to slide in a tight, low cross from Borna Sosa. Aston Villa keeper Martinez made the save.

The same Martinez had to come into action again in the 67th minute on a shot by Kenneth Taylor. The midfielder was given plenty of space to tap the ball in, but the shot was saved by the Aston Villa keeper.

10 against 10

In the 83rd minute, Aston Villa had to continue with ten men when defender Konsa received his second yellow (and therefore a red) card. Three minutes later, Ajax also had to continue with ten men: Gooijer also had to leave the field with two yellow cards.

There were no more goals scored after that, but both teams still had chances. Villa became the most dangerous of both teams. Fortunately, Ajax defender Ahmetcan Kaplan barely managed to block Leon Bailly’s shot.

Ajax line-up: Ramaj; Gooijer, Rensch, Kaplan, Hato, Sosa; Henderson, Mannsverk (76′ Van den Boomen), Taylor, Hlynsson (80′ Akpom); Brobbey
