Driven by more than 20,000 traveling fans, FC Schalke 04 won the away game at Fortuna Düsseldorf 2-0 (1-0) and thereby consolidated their lead in the 2nd Bundesliga. The two Knappen icons Klaus Fischer and Rüdiger Abramczik are proud of the team, but at the same time they also point out the opponents’ inability.
“Düsseldorf shot nine times and hit the goal once. The result is terrible,” said Rüdiger Abramczik in the “Football Legends Talk” about Fortuna’s weak results in the western duel with FC Schalke 04.
The Royal Blues, on the other hand, “played well,” the 69-year-old analyzed and added, referring to the pressing football of successful coach Miron Muslic: “We played what we had been playing the whole time.”
Meanwhile, Klaus Fischer praised Schalke’s performance. “The team is in top shape. If we continue to play so aggressively, I am convinced that we will not have any problems in the two games we still have,” emphasized the former S04 goalscorer.
Video: Fortuna star is slowly losing interest
There is still a home game against friendly 1. FC Nürnberg (December 14th, 1:30 p.m.) and the away game at Eintracht Braunschweig (December 21st, 1:30 p.m.) on Schalke’s program until Christmas.
Clear demand: No carelessness on Schalke!
At Kellerkind Düsseldorf, the guests had set the course for victory shortly before the break. Captain Kenan Karaman took the lead with a penalty kick (45th + 2nd), but had to go off injured at the break.
Vitalie Becker (81st) later made the final score for Schalke, who now have 34 points. Fortuna and Eintracht Frankfurt last collected more points after 15 match days in the 2nd league in the 2011/12 season.
Abramczik and Fischer are correspondingly optimistic, although they consider euphoria to be premature. One should not become “reckless” and must continue to “think from game to game,” demanded the two veterans of the traditional club.
