It was an unusual picture that appeared on the scoreboard at the World Cup in St. Moritz. For the first time this season, the winner of the monobob did not come from Germany. The team, used to success, even missed out on the podium. Lisa Buckwitz became the best German. She ended up in fourth place.

Mega surprise in St. Moritz

Laura Nolte, Kim Kalicki and Buckwitz won the World Cup this winter. No other nation has ever been at the top – until the World Cup in St. Moritz. Elana Meyers Taylor took the win with an outstanding performance. The American dominated the first round. She showed no weakness in the second either (2:21.520m). The Australian Breena Walker (+0.240s) came second ahead of Kaysha Love (+0.550s).

Kim Kalicki came in sixth (+0.730s), Laura Nolte was ninth (+1.190s). But both improved in the second round. Kalicki, who was previously in seventh place, gained one place, Nolte, who was now in twelfth place, improved by three places.

The result from St. Moritz has an impact on the overall World Cup. Lisa Buckwitz takes the lead, Laura Nolte is now second.

It will become clear on Saturday whether the result from St. Moritz was just a blemish on the otherwise flawless German record. Then we drive again in the monobob in St. Moritz.
