The “Avengers: Doomsday” trailer reveals the return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers – with a child and a mysterious visitor. Watch now.

The first trailer for “Avengers: Doomsday” has officially been released and provides a first glimpse of the next big Marvel production. This means that the material can now also be seen outside of the exclusive cinema preview of “Avatar: Fire and Ash”. In addition to great anticipation, the return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers aka Captain America is particularly attracting attention. At the same time, critical voices from the fan community also have their say. Warning: This article contains spoilers from the trailer.

What the trailer tells us

The approximately one-minute trailer initially takes place in front of an inconspicuous 1970s-style house with a motorcycle parked in front of it. In the following shot it becomes clear: Steve Rogers himself enters the picture. Chris Evans can be seen as Captain America while holding a small child in his arms. Shortly afterwards the text appears: “Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday.” The conclusion is the appearance of a mysterious, chivalrous-looking figure who greets Rogers with the words “Hello, Captain”.

Classification and open questions about the plot

Steve Rogers was last seen in Avengers: Endgame after returning the Infinity Stones to their respective timelines. He then returned to the main timeline aged and passed his shield to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie). After that, he decided to stay in the past with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). The new trailer now raises numerous questions: Is the Steve Rogers shown the same from the known Earth-616 timeline, or is it an alternative variant? The child’s identity also remains open. In the comics, Steve Rogers has two sons, James and Ian, which leaves room for speculation. It is also unclear who the child’s mother could be.

Marvel’s strategy and other teasers

“Avengers: Doomsday” will once again be directed by the Russo brothers, who confirmed their return behind the camera in 2024. However, the released trailer appears to be just a part of a larger marketing strategy. As the “Hollywood Reporter” reported, several more teasers will follow in the coming weeks, each focusing on different characters from the film. These short previews will each be shown in theaters for a week before James Cameron’s “Avatar: Fire and Ash.” The theatrical release of the new Marvel production in the USA is on December 18th, 2026, and December 19th, 2026 has been confirmed for German cinemas.
