Surprise! BVB coach fired after victory

The 2022/23 season is certainly not going according to plan for Borussia Dortmund’s second team, but the fact that BVB coach Christian Preusser kicked out after a 2-1 win against FC Ingolstadt, which had been relegated to the second division, was a surprise. The black and yellow confirmed the separation on Monday evening.

The fact that after 21 matchdays in the 3rd league with 21 points they ranked just before the first relegation zone, one would certainly have wished otherwise at BVB II, but the last result gave cause for hope. The Borussia leadership pulled the rip cord and relieved coach Christian Preusser of his duties with immediate effect.

“We didn’t take the decision lightly. In the past few weeks, however, we’ve come to believe that our goals for the season – both in terms of the development of the team and the individual development of the players – will be difficult to achieve in this constellation. We would like to thank Christian Preusser for the work he has done and wish him all the best for the future,” said Ingo Preuss, the sporting director of Dortmund’s U23s, explaining the surprising step.

BVB does not yet have a successor in hand

Preusser coached Rot-Weiß Essen, SC Freiburg II and Fortuna Düsseldorf before he succeeded Enrico Maßen at BVB II, who had moved to Bundesliga club FC Augsburg, in the summer of 2022.

However, Preusser was only able to win a sobering six of 21 games (3 draws, 12 defeats). A record that was now fatal for the native of Berlin.

According to the announcement, BVB wants to decide who will follow Preuß “in the coming days”.

It’s not surprising that you’re not satisfied with the performance in the 3rd division this season: With Marcel Lotka, Tom Rothe, Justin Njinmah, Marco Pašalić, Antonios Papadopoulos and Lion Semic, there were six players in the squad for the last win against Ingolstadt. who have already gained experience in the Bundesliga.
