From Italy to Sierra Leone, always with the same idea: overcoming barriers thanks to surfing. It is the idea carried forward by Surf4Childrena non-profit organization that develops projects in Italy and around the world. In particular, Surf4Children has done an incredible job in Sierra Leone: having arrived in a village (Bureh Town) which did not yet have a health centre, without electricity or running water, they managed to make the surfing is an integral part of the economic and social revitalization of the areacreating a micro-climate of livelihood for the whole community thanks to the related activities sports tourism brought by surf enthusiasts, schools and equipment rentals. “The aim of Surf4Children is to develop social, work and health inclusion projects where there are populations with special needs: we are talking about both complex diseases and socially and economically fragile contexts” explains the pediatrician, co-founder and president of Surf4Children Danilo Buonsenso: “We are currently active both with projects in Italy, along the Lazio coast, and in the village of Bureh Town in Sierra Leone since 2016. We also collaborate remotely with surfers from the Rocinha favelain Brazil, which we support through donations for the projects they periodically develop.” In addition to Doctor Buonsenso, the project was founded by Pietro Sollena, Irene Sollena, Francesco Iodice, Stefano Rocchi and Alessia de Nisco.
