Solo, Stijn Appel was the first to cross the finish line in Egmond. And with that, the cyclist from Spanbroek has won the Egmond-Pier-Egmond beach race. Appel clocked a time of 01:03.20.
For the first time, Stijn Appel was at the start of the Egmond beach race and he immediately crowned it with victory. The Spanbroeker sprinted away from the leading group twenty minutes before the end and nobody could catch up with the 26-year-old cyclist. “I had not expected this, but I hoped. This comes as a very nice surprise”, Appel commented afterwards.

For the past two years, the beach race has not been held due to corona. The last edition of 2020 was won by Sebastian Langeveld. He didn’t start today.
Women
Riejanne Markus from Amstelveen was the strongest among the women. This is also her first victory in Egmond for the Dutch road champion. Pauliena Rooijakkers was in the lead for a long time, but she fell in the final phase of the race. “I saw that she got stuck in the water. Then I saw her jump and eventually fall into the water. Then I demarcated full house. I made another mistake at the end, but luckily I was able to win it,” said Marcus afterwards.
