Finally Speakers! At 34 years old, at the two hundredth World Cup race, 15 years after his debut, Mattia can unleash the scream: after 40 competitors he is leading the super-G in Val Gardena. It would be his first success, at the end of a perfect race, to break a fast in the specialty that had lasted for Italy since March 2019, when Paris won in Soldeu. Casse – first in 1’28″23 – is in the lead with a one-hundredth advantage over the American Goldberg. Marco Odermatt, king of the Cup and master of the specialty in recent seasons, finishes over 4 tenths behind (3rd at 43/100). the Norwegian Moeller, at 54/100 ahead of the Swiss Rogentin and the Canadian Alexander, joint fifth (at 57/100).

the race

In a very fast super-G designed by the Norwegian coach Anderson, Mattia did nothing wrong, very fast and precise in the key passages. Confirming the sensations during testing, when like many times in the past he was always among the fastest. But unlike previous years, this time he confirmed himself in the race: “At the beginning I said to myself: I’d better wake up – he declared to Rai microphones -. I was skiing well in training, this is the proof”.

After the not so brilliant trip to Beaver Creek, Paris is ninth (77/100 from Casse) despite an error on the floor, and Pietro Zazzi is tenth (97/100). Fifteenth at 1″36 Nicolò Molteni.

The race was interrupted after the terrible fall of the Austrian Danklmaier. There was no shortage of surprises: Frenchman Sarrazin was out, having been second to Beaver behind Odermatt in the first super-G of the season: the Frenchman first took a big risk on a jump and then was unable to stay on the track.
