Super-G in Kvitfjell: Kira Weidle after a failed World Cup with the next disappointment

Status: 03/03/2023 11:40 a.m

After her 23rd place at the World Championships, Kira Weidle again missed a top 10 place at the Super-G in Kvitfjell. Especially at the beginning she made too many mistakes on Friday (03/03/2023).

After a few seconds, the 27-year-old made a mistake in the Russian jump and thus missed the chance of an even better placement. Although Weidel then showed a clear improvement in performance, with a time of 1:27.65 minutes it was only enough for twelfth place.

Hütter triumphs, Shiffrin misses a record

The winner of the day was Cornelia Hütter. The Austrian (1:26.83 minutes) was 0.01 seconds faster than Elena Curtoni, who would have taken the lead in the Super-G classification if she had won. The Norwegian local hero Ragnhild Mowinckel started the race with the red jersey, but only managed 14th place. The new leader in the discipline standings is Lara Gut-Behrami, who finished third, 0.12 seconds behind Curtoni.

Meanwhile, Mikaela Shiffrin has to wait for Ingemar Stenmark’s record to be set. The exceptional driver was in the lead for a long time in Kvitfjell, but lost time in the lower section of the track and ended up fourth (+0.16 seconds). Shiffrin not only missed her 86th victory, but also the early success in the overall World Cup. With eight more races to go this season, if she were to win again, she would not have been able to take the top position from her.
