Full subways, closed routes, 20 euro parking fees – if you want to go to Linkin Park in the Allianz Arena, you should take these things into account.

The people making the pilgrimage to the Allianz Arena on Thursday (June 11) and Friday (June 12) are wearing Linkin Park merch instead of FC Bayern jerseys. While football fans are more likely to sit at the public viewing of the World Cup, Munich’s public transport will be full of concert-goers. This can lead to traffic chaos.

Full lanes and adapted driving operations

The Allianz Arena is busy with open-air concerts this summer. Those traveling on the subway and S-Bahn must expect crowded trains and waiting times. When tired Linkin Park fans stream towards the Fröttmaning stop after the last song, there can be bottlenecks. The MVG therefore points out on its website that “if there is a risk of overcrowding, the platform will be closed for a few minutes for safety reasons until there is enough space on the platform for passengers moving up.” However, this is normal procedure at major events.

So that the U6 can run as high a frequency as possible between the Allianz Arena and the city center, the U3 only commutes between Moosach and Münchner Freiheit during concert evenings. MVG advises travelers heading towards the city center who want to avoid the hustle and bustle of Linkin Park to change to the U2 at Scheidplatz.

Replacement buses from Sendlinger Tor

Also important: If you want to go further than Sendlinger Tor, you have to change to alternative buses. The subway lines U6 and U3 are currently closed between Sendlinger Tor and Implerstrasse due to renovation work.

The S-Bahn trains on the main route also do not run as usual – at least on Friday evening, the second Linkin Park concert: from 10:15 p.m. on the weekend only S1, S2, S3 and S5 run between East and Central Station. This restriction can also be avoided: simply change to the U4 or U5 at Odeonsplatz.

Anyone who thinks that they can save themselves the chaos and prefer to drive to the arena should be careful: parking fees at the Allianz Arena are 20 euros. However, Munich public transport is included in the concert ticket. The Allianz Arena also warns against long exit times from the parking garages. When fully operational, it could take over two hours to leave the parking garage. Then maybe you’d rather take the subway.
