Summary: KZ size too big for Green Yellow in fierce Zaanse korfball derby

In an extremely fierce Zaanse korfball derby tonight, Koog Zaandijk pulled the longest straw. Tim Bakker’s team won 23-16 on a visit to Groen Geel in Wormer.

KZ started the game as the favourite, but in the opening phase it went right up. Groen Geel threw a lot of energy into the game and thus tried to keep up with KZ. After a 3-3 score, KZ gradually started to distance itself. Partly thanks to two hits by both Marjolein Schenk and Nikki Boerhout, KZ took a 10-5 lead.

KZ had to do without the sick Anouk Haars, but her replacement Zoë Engel made sure that the difference at halftime only increased with two goals: 14-7.

At Groen Geel, trainer Dico Dik sat on the bench next to Thijs Muller today. Dik replaces until the end of the indoor season the recently resigned Daniel Harmzen. After the break, Dik and Muller’s team seemed to believe in a stunt. The spectators stood behind the home team and Groen Geel seemed to live up to this. Goals from Carlo de Vries and Thomas Schagen brought the number nine of the competition back to four points.

Marijn van den Goorbergh then thought it was enough and thanks to three hits from his hand, KZ ran further. In the last minutes there were some riots here and there. Marjolein Schenk and Lisanne de Bruin in particular got into a fight, but this did not detract from the result.

Stand

Despite the 23-16 victory, KZ remains in fifth place in the Korfbal League. Groen Geel can be found in ninth place, a place that means play-offs for promotion / relegation at the end of the season. Blauw-Wit won convincingly 32-21 against unitas last night. The formation from Amsterdam is seventh in the ranking.
