Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa, became the great protagonist in the first part of the game and was decisive for his team to go ahead at half-time to lay the foundations for victory.
First, in minute 6, he put an impressive pass from the small area to Galen who, after beating Kossonou who was marking him, reached the area and scored with a low shot of the right leg.
In the little that the party had Leverkusen had tried to take the initiative although without having managed to manufacture any clear arrival.
With the score in favor, Porto withdrew a lot and filled their own area with men. Leverkusen had the ball but also had difficulty getting to the finish.

a minute laters a shot by Adli ended in the net but the VAR annulled the goal which would have been Leverkusen’s equalizer as the ball had hit Patrick Schick’s elbow before entering the goal.
In the second half, in minute 49, Leverkusen had a good chance in minute 49, with a shot by Adli that Cardoso blocked but then, in minute 53, came the first penalty.
Kovacs had first called a foul outside the area. Then the VAR corrected and sanctioned a penalty. Mehdi Taremi scored. And Leverkusen lost steam.
In minute 63 came another penalty, Kossounu’s foul against Galeno, this time sanctioned directly by Kovacs, and again Mehdi Taremi did not fail.
At the end of the match the stat sheet showed Bayer Leverkusen 66 per cent ball possession and 17 shots on goal against Porto’s five. The only statistic that Porto won, aside from goals, were duels for split balls.
