Dave Shapiro is one of the six fatalities of the aircraft accident in San Diego early Thursday morning (May 22nd). The 42-year-old was a well-known music agent, including the rock band Sum 41 and co-founder of numerous initiatives and companies that shaped the alternative music scene.

What happened?

The Cessna 550 aircraft machine crashed around three kilometers south of the Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport after 3:45 p.m. The impact triggered a fire that damaged several houses and destroyed dozens of vehicles. Over 100 people had to be evacuated, but nobody was injured on the ground.

Who was Dave Shapiro?

Dave Shapiro was much more than a music agent. He shaped the careers of numerous rock and metal bands for decades. In 2018 he founded the “Sound Talent Group” together with Tim Borror and Matt Andersen after working on the “Agency Group” and the “United Talent Agency”. His clients included scene sizes such as Sum 41, Eve 6, Pierce the Veil, I Prevail, Silverstein, Story of the Year and many other well -known artists: inside.

A spokesman for the “Sound Talent Group” told the BBC: “We are shaken by the loss of our co -founder, colleague and friend. Our sympathy applies to his relatives and everyone who is affected by this tragedy.” In addition to Shapiro, there are two other employees: an accident inside, but the identities of which are not known.

In addition to his work as an agent, Shapiro was a co-founder of the National Independent Talent Organization (Nito), which, among other things, campaigned for Corona pandemic for the protection and support of artists: inside and agencies. Shapiro’s second great passion was the aviation. As a certified flight instructor with over 15 years of experience, he had the company Velocity Aviation, through which he offered flight hours.
