Sudosa-Desto lets leader Sneek escape

Visser Assen/Sudosa-Desto and Friso/Sneek turned it into an intense volleyball battle that was decided in five sets. Once again the people of Assen failed to win against the Frisians. After trailing 2-0, the guests won 3-2.

In the first two sets, the people of Assen neutralized the greater violence of the Premier League leader with a fantastic defensive attitude. Moreover, unlike the first leg two weeks ago, Manon Torenbeek was fully present for the home team.

Sneek was ahead for a long time in the first set (15-17), but on the decisive points Torenbeek, together with diagonal Paula Boonstra, took her team by the hand. After 25-23 in the first set, the people of Assen also took the second set.

Sudosa-Desto takes the initiative

Sneek took an early lead (5-7), but after the substitution of Lynn van Mill for Kirsten Wessels, Sudosa-Desto took the initiative. The score became 17-14 at 8-7, after which a block by Maureen van der Woude and Torenbeek made the final decision (23-20) and Mark Afman’s team eventually won the set 25-22.

This strong game did not continue in the third set. Libero Danique Hamming had a difficult time, so there was almost no mid attack. Sneek won the third set 25-20 and made it 2-2 by winning the fourth set 26-24, despite the fact that Sudosa-Desto was ahead 23-22.

Two tap-in balls from Sneek’s scorer ultimately resulted in a fifth set. Sudosa-Desto changed sides with an 8-7 lead, but in the end it was the leader of the Premier League who won 15-12.

‘Of course we have to play it out better’

Afman was quite disappointed. “Of course, we have to play it out better ourselves, but every questionable decision was against us. Danique (Aardema) is whistled at a crucial moment because she walked too early, while it happened all the time. Wardless.”
