Suddenly the confidence for Giffey is there

Before the re-election, the SPD shows unity. A comment from BZ editor Katja Colmenares.

If it has to, the Berlin SPD can agree. And 100 percent. A brief moment to breathe for Franziska Giffey. Suddenly her comrades allow her to do that. After all, a repeat election does not win itself.

Maybe you should have shown her this absolute trust a year ago. As a reminder: Giffey’s desire to govern Berlin with a traffic light coalition was not only rejected by the Greens, but also by his own party.

Of course nobody knows whether the city would be better positioned today. Possibly not against the consequences of the Ukraine war, energy crisis, shortage of skilled workers – but there are enough other construction sites.

If Giffey wins this close race next year, she deserves 100 percent confidence. At least from her own party.
