After Ole Book’s sudden departure to Borussia Dortmund, SV Elversberg has now announced his successor. Christian Weber will be the new sports director for the second division club.
SV Elversberg has hired Christian Weber as its new sports director. This confirms reports from “Sky Sport” that Weber was the SVE’s preferred candidate for the post. Weber worked in this position at Fortuna Düsseldorf until December 2025.
Book moved to Dortmund after 8.5 years
SVE President Dominik Holzer expressed his satisfaction with the appointment: “With Christian Weber we are gaining a sports director who knows German professional football from different perspectives and has extensive experience in squad planning and scouting. He stands for a clear, structured way of working and for responsible decisions in the sporting area.”
Weber should work together with the new technical director of SVE, Josef Welzmüller, direct the fortunes of the second division team. At the end of March, SV Elversberg announced that its previous sports director Ole Book was leaving the club for Borussia Dortmund after eight and a half years. David Blacha initially took over the ongoing tasks in the sporting area.
Weber plays actively at Fortuna Düsseldorf – then moved to Office
Weber, who originally comes from Saarland, is looking forward to the new position: “SV Elversberg has earned an excellent reputation in recent years with clear structures, courageous decisions and a consistent sporting focus. I am very impressed by this development and I am looking forward to being part of this journey.”
During his active time, Weber was at Fortuna Düsseldorf, among others, and worked in the club’s office from 2015. He initially worked in scouting, worked his way up to chief scout and was therefore significantly involved in Fortuna’s squad planning. Since the end of 2022 he moved to the position of sports director in Düsseldorf.
SVE defeat against Schalke: setback Promotion race
In terms of sport, the SVE suffered a setback in the promotion race last weekend – The top duel against the traditional club FC Schalke 04 was lost 1:2. Because SC Paderborn was able to win against Magdeburg at the same time, the SVE slipped to the ungrateful fourth place in the table after several weeks in the top 3.
At the same time, the Elversbergers still have a challenging remaining program ahead of them: in two weeks they will face direct rivals Darmstadt, and the following week they will face Paderborn, currently second in the table. But first the SVE welcomes Karlsruher SC on Friday evening.
