The water polo players of ZV De Zaan have issued their business card in Europe. The Zaankanters are already sure of the next round in the Euro Cup before the last group match. A great achievement, because ZV De Zaan has never played European matches before.
For ZV De Zaan it is the first time that the club plays in Europe. In Thessaloniki, the water polo players performed well in the group matches. PAOK Thessaloniki (7-6), CN Echeyde (11-10) and SV Ludwigsburg (16-7) were all three defeated. ZV De Zaan was only second to leader Sibenik from Croatia: 9-5.
“The opponents come from traditional water polo countries,” said trainer Andreas Miralis before the European adventure. “They all have a good level. So I expect tough matches.”
Tomorrow the Miralis team will play against Montpellier. The stakes in that match are the battle for second place in the group stage. The draw for the next round of the Euro Cup will take place next Monday.
