Subsidy for quality of life projects in Coevorden, Borger, Rogat, Ruinen and Westerbork

The Provincial Executive makes almost €400,000 in subsidy available for projects that benefit ‘spatial quality’. The budget is drawn for six projects in the municipalities of Coevorden (2x), Borger-Odoorn, Meppel, De Wolden and Midden-Drenthe.

There are two projects in Coevorden. In one project, the recovered foundations of the Bentheimerpoort are retained and integrated into the new construction of an apartment complex. There is 150,000 euros available for this. In the other project there is 130,000 euros to redesign the Orphanage meadow into Kasteelpark. The municipality wants to create a meeting place there with space for small-scale, cultural events.

Borger-Odoorn wants to take a close look at the infrastructure in Borger, because new houses are being built on the west side of the village, a public transport hub is being developed and a new school is being built. The municipality will receive 50,000 euros to have an urban sketch made of what everything should look like.

In Rogat, the municipality of Meppel and residents have drawn up a plan to enable spatial quality in conjunction with speed-restricting measures and the replacement of diseased trees. The municipality receives 7,500 euros for this.

In Ruinen, the municipality, residents and users of sports park De Baete have drawn up a plan to turn the sports park into a multifunctional exercise park for sport, recreation, relaxation and meeting, with an exercise boulevard, multifunctional ice rink, storage locations, a safe bicycle connection to the school and a new canteen with changing rooms. The open-air theater will be moved and part of the current sports park will be used for housing. The municipality of De Wolden receives 50,000 euros for this.

Finally, several parties have worked together on the Gastvrij Westerbork implementation programme, so that the shopping area remains attractive and lively. To achieve this, the municipality of Midden-Drenthe will receive 10,000 euros.

If the Provincial Council has any reservations or additional wishes regarding the projects, they can still be made known.
