Style expert: Marin closed the circle

On her last day in parliament, Marin wore black.

Former Prime Minister Sanna Marin asked for and received her resignation from parliament.

On his last day in parliament, he wore a black suit. He did the same in 2019, when he was declared the new prime minister.

The circle closes with Sanna Marini’s choice to wear black, says Fashion Unit’s CEO Johanna Soilu.

– Very solid and sure sannamarstyle.

Soilu compares Marini to Duchess Catherine, who is also a “classic style dresser”.

Raised a debate

Marin has previously said that she is aware that women’s appearance is being talked about. In order for the attention to be focused on things and not on appearance, he said that as prime minister he strives to dress consistently and matter-of-factly – often in black. In party meetings like SDP’s party meeting, Marin has often dressed in the party’s color, i.e. red.

However, Marin’s iconic clothing choices have also attracted attention and discussion about whether commenting on politicians’ clothing is gendered and problematic.

For example, in October 2020, Marin posed on the pages of Trendi magazine in a dark suit without an undershirt, and Marin’s 2022 Ruisrock party style with leather jackets, denim shorts and boots became a viral phenomenon.

Most recently, Marin’s bare shoulder sparked a discussion about the parliament’s dress code. Marin himself has said that he wanted to with his activities as prime minister “shake the institution”.

However, according to Soilu, the matter-of-fact choice to wear black was for the situation and appropriate.

– He certainly has the messages.
