Two in three Dutch people (67 percent) want the government to point out the risks of long-term complaints after a corona infection. This is reported by the makers of the EO podcast Long Covid, the Shadow Pandemic, which had a survey conducted among more than a thousand respondents.
That research also shows that one in seven respondents compares long-term corona with a burnout and that 9 percent believe that people with long-term Covid are not entitled to disability benefits.
Young people in particular are skeptical about long-term corona complaints, the researchers report. For example, one in ten young people does not say that long-term Covid is a real illness and a quarter of young people between the ages of 18 and 30 think that the complaints are caused by psychological factors.
Recently, a large-scale population survey by, among others, UMC Groningen and Radboudumc, showed that one in eight people who become infected with corona suffers from Long Covid, i.e. long-term complaints. This concerns, for example, chest pain, loss of smell and taste, shortness of breath, fatigue or muscle pain. The complaints do not decrease much and can have a major impact on the quality of life.
