Students will later be told whether they have passed due to a cyber attack

Due to a cyber attack, hundreds of students at the Pius X College in Bladel did not receive the results of their final exams until later. Due to the attack, the figures could not be calculated in time on Wednesday. Metameer Jenaplan in Boxmeer and Stevensbeek was also hit, but was able to pass on the results on time.

It concerned an attack on SomToday’s systems. This company passes on the standards to the schools and the figures are then calculated. Of the 400 schools that use this pupil tracking system, about 85 percent had already calculated the figures.

On Wednesday morning, updates had to be installed in the software because the system had crashed. That’s when the cybercriminals struck. They posted a “very large DDoS attack,” says a spokesperson.

In addition to Pius X College and Metameer, 18 other schools in the Netherlands were affected by the outage. As a result, many students were told a little later whether they had passed.
