The tension can be clearly felt at the Regional Schools Community Stad and Esch in Diever. 37 students of the school take final exams this year. At 1.30 pm the VMBO starts with English and HAVO students with physics.

Everything is already ready in the room. In the meantime, the students are going through the last things in the hall before they can enter. In the past period, everything revolved around the final exams, but how do you prepare well? And what is the role of parents?

“One of my sisters also does a final exam,” says Henry Morgan. “So we often learn together. Then it is just quiet and we are well focused. My mother also helps me to force me to learn, because sometimes it has to be more than I actually do,” he laughs.

“I think my parents find it a bit more exciting than myself,” admits Mart Mulder. But they help him too. “My mother always says: I now live my exam period again. So yes, she helps me everything. My father has printed the tests and so on.”

Mart feels the tension, but does not want to make it bigger than it is. “It is really just a test. But of course it is: if you don’t make it, you will not succeed. Then you will not go.” He shrugs.

“I do a lot of different practice exams online,” Jasper van Dijk shares a tip. “And I ordered a few online books. I will read it as an extra exercise.”

Jorrit Visser is for the second year in a row exam secretary of Stad en Esch. He ensures that everything is guided in the right direction. He acknowledges that it is an exciting period for both parents and students. Perhaps the most important tip for parents to point out their child: come on time. “That is important today and during the rest of the exams. Because if you are too late, you can no longer participate and you have dropped automatically.”

All in all, Henry, Mart and Jasper think they will pass the exams. They are all good, they say. “A few sevens. So I am confident that it will be okay,” says Henry.

The students will receive the results of their exams on 12 June. Until then it remains exciting.
