The Netherlands has forever lost its innocence. Everyone called that after the murder of Pim Fortuyn, 23 years ago. Society had changed forever, politics too. Gone was the self -confidence of the ‘guide country’ that thought it would triumph on all fronts, while the population conformed to a lifeless policy that wiped all social tensions under the carpet. From now on, sobriety and common sense had to determine the tone of politics.
