For the members of the Boermarke tug-of-war association (TTV) in Annen, it was all hands on deck yesterday to offer their fellow villagers an Easter fire with accompanying fun. Yesterday’s strong wind almost threatened to throw a spanner in the works.

In recent days, the members have worked hard to build the Easter fire. A tent was also placed for a snack and a drink for visitors. But that tent appeared to have completely collapsed yesterday morning.

Ronald Smit from TTV Boermarke: “In the morning, one of our members texted that the wind was blowing very hard. Then we thought: oh no, the tent! One of the members then went to have a look and found a tent that was completely in disrepair.”

From that moment on, the members of the association had to work hard to ensure that the Easter fire party on Easter Sunday could go ahead. “We picked up all the tippers and potato boxes and put them down. We were able to make a wind shield from them. And we managed to arrange a new tent,” says Smit with relief.

The setback with the collapsed tent caused a slight delay. The Easter fire started an hour later than planned, but that didn’t seem to matter to the visitors. At 7.45 pm the Easter fire on the Nijedijk was lit by children from Annen. Visitors were asked for a voluntary contribution, with which the organization hopes to be able to purchase a new tent.
