Strong serve brings Sudosa-Desto victory in Borne

Visser Assen/Sudosa-Desto recorded an equally important and impressive victory over Apollo 8. After a poor first set, the team recovered and recorded a 3-1 victory.

The team from Assen got out of the starting blocks and quickly led 5-1. Only there it came to a halt and Mark Afman’s team was no longer involved. Apollo 8 ran away to 23-12 before Eline Mosselaar’s serve made the score a little more bearable: 23-18.

Mosselaar continues quietly in the second set

Of course, a set win was never an option (25-18), but Mosselaar calmly continued to serve excellently in the second set. The home formation led to 15-14, before the center player served her team to 18-15.

Sudosa-Desto held on to this lead well, against a team that had climbed to second place in the rankings in recent weeks. Manon Torenbeek scored the last point (25-21), straight from her serve, making the score 1-1.

Maureen van der Velde goes through her ankle

Even after that, the serving pressure from the guests remained high. Afman: “We disrupted their game with our serve. If you don’t succeed, they will play such a fast game that you have no chance.” Afman saw his playmaker Danique Aardema serve from 10-10 to 16-10 in the third set.

After which Paula Boonstra hammered together the remaining points in the final phase: 25-19. “After that it seemed to be difficult because Maureen van der Woude, who played a hell of a match, broke her ankle at 15-13. But Mare van Vliet came in excellently, including a great block that led to 25-21.” With the victory, Sudosa-Desto is now in second place behind Sneek.
