A competition inspection by bobsleigh pusher Simon Wulff led to an eye-catching test result. The 24-year-old from Francesco Friedrich’s team has been released as a precautionary measure.

Due to an abnormal doping test, Olympic bobsleigh champion Francesco Friedrich has to do without pusher Simon Wulff for the time being. A competition sample from the 24-year-old showed a banned substance, the bobsleigh and sled sports association for Germany announced. Wulff has been “exempted from sports activities as a precautionary measure until the matter has been fully clarified.”

In this case, results management does not lie with the German anti-doping agency Nada, but with the international agency Ita. The substance detected by Wulff is permitted in training but prohibited in competition. The BSD did not say when the positive sample was taken.

The Ita or the international association have not yet issued any suspension. It was not clear from the statement whether Wulff requested the analysis of a B sample. So far there has been no statement from him; the presumption of innocence applies until a decision is made.

The ex-athlete Wulff only joined the team of four-time Olympic champion Friedrich before the season. The Dresden native had set himself the goal of taking part in the 2026 Olympics. This season, Wulff celebrated World Cup victories in the two-man bobsleigh in Altenberg and Sigulda (Latvia) as well as a second place in the four-man bobsleigh in Winterberg last weekend. He was supposed to compete in the two-man bobsleigh with Friedrich in St. Moritz at the weekend.
